OUR STORY

In the early 1800s, Duncan Campbell moved from Breadalbane to Doune, Perthshire, and established a business as a drystone dyker and well sinker. His son, Hugh, later expanded the business in 1860, introducing wire fencing to Perthshire which quickly replaced traditional stone dykes.

For the next 50 years, Duncan, Hugh, and their family fenced large areas of Highland Perthshire, working long hours with the help of ponies and horses. As the railway arrived in Doune, the business grew further, adding a smithy and sawmill to supply timber to agriculture and coal mining industries.

By the early 1900s, the company was run by Hugh and his sons, focussing on wood cutting, sawmilling, and civil engineering projects like roadworks and bridge building. These efforts provided local employment and contributed to the community.

In the 1970s, the business diversified into imported timber for the housebuilding industry. Although the sawmill closed in 2004, the firm transitioned into a civil and structural engineering consultancy, now led by Hugh Campbell.

While technology has transformed the way we work, our commitment to quality and our people remains as strong as when Duncan Campbell first started over 150 years ago.
